Above Ground Pool Decks

!±8± Above Ground Pool Decks

The decking around a pool is something that people often don't give enough thought to as they go through the planning process of having an above ground pool installed. The fact of the matter is that in a family there are generally two types of pool people. One of them spends the vast majority of their pool time in the water frolicking with their friends and siblings and the other you can find most of the time laying on a towel or sunning in a lounge chair.

This is why virtually every above ground pool installer now also installs decks as well. When planning a deck there are a few things to remember that can save you lots of money. The first type of material that comes to mind when many people think of decks is redwood but there are many downsides to redwood.

Its very expensive, turns grey in the sun, requires maintainence such as sealer applications and only functions optimally in drier climates. However; the upside to redwood is that when it is properly installed and maintained it does look fantastic as a deck material. Because an above ground pool deck will usually be a raised deck, that will eliminate dry rot concerns.

This leaves the door wide open to using standard douglas fir, which would of course be painted. What ever type of deck that you use with your above ground pool it is important to balance out your material and labor cost. That means that you have to decide if you are going to forgo a complete wrap around deck made with less expensive materials for a smaller half or quarter deck built using more expensive materials. Either way, one thing is for sure and that is that a nice quality constructed above ground pool with a nice deck attached to it is an inviting addition to anyones backyard.
